After I had my daughter my whole life changed. I isolated myself and started losing my self-confidence and motivation for my own life. I tried going back to school on my own, but got discouraged with finances and child care. I didn’t think I would be able to do it alone. Thanks to the Women’s Fund, now I have resources and feel I will be more prepared when entering college.

Starting Point 2.0

In 2017, the Women’s Fund formally launched a new multi-year initiative to increase the life-long economic security of women and their families by strategically addressing the needs of young women ages 18-29.  Our decision was supported by these findings:

  • Young women ages 18-29 were reported as the most under-served age group in our spring 2014 community needs assessment.
  • Women’s Fund grantees working with youth reported a lack of services for young adults aging out of programs.
  • The Status of Women in Northeast Wisconsin Report sections on Educational Attainment, Women & Poverty, and Women, Work & Wages demonstrate the need for increased efforts to help women become economically secure.

Innovative Strategies

Starting Point 2.0

Starting Point 2.0 is a partnership between the Women’s Fund, B.A.B.E.S. Child Abuse Prevention Program and Fox Valley Technical College. It uses the Two-Generation approach, which provides opportunities for vulnerable children and parents together.

In addition to single moms, it was decided in September 2018 to expand the program to include young women who were not parents.

The innovative program strengthens women and families through empowerment workshops for young, low-income women and offers quality early childhood education for those with children.
