Dr. Ann McKee Featured Luncheon Speaker

Posted on Jun 28, 2017 by

The Women’s Fund Luncheon featured speaker, Appleton native Ann McKee, M.D., is a true agent of change. As the Director of the Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) Center at Boston University and Chief Neuropathologist for the brain banks at VA Boston, her groundbreaking work identifying CTE in contact sport athletes and military veterans has increased our understanding of the roles concussions and head injuries play in long-term brain health.

Dr. McKee was featured in the Frontline Documentary League of Denial and has participated in briefings with the National Football League. She has testified at hearings and briefings before the United States Congress and Senate on the effects of head injuries, including the impact on student athletes and military service members.

Dr. McKee has received numerous awards including the Boston Globe Bostonian of the Year Award; the Sports Legacy Institute Impact Award; the Center for Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh Scientific Impact Award; and Spivack Distinguished Scholar in the Neurosciences Award and the Neurology Faculty Research Award, both from Boston University School of Medicine.

The Women’s Fund is honored to welcome this courageous and accomplished woman in science home to Appleton to share her story September 7 at the annual Women’s Fund Luncheon.
